Hatanga couple took part in mass wedding

May 14, 2024

The newlyweds registered their marriage at the all-Russian festival.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The country’s mass wedding is taking place at the international exhibition Russia in Moscow. This event is dedicated to the Family Year in Russia.

The mass wedding ceremony took place last Sunday, May 12, when Orthodox countries celebrated Red Hill holiday. In church tradition, this holiday is called Antipascha or St. Thomas Sunday and is dedicated to the memory of the Christ appearance to the Apostle Thomas on the eighth day after the resurrection. It is believed that spouses who legalize their marriage on this day will experience happiness and prosperity.

On one day, 151 newlyweds from 79 regions of the country registered their marriage. Each new family was given the fire of the all-Russian family hearth Heart of Russia. It was lit at the start ceremony of the Family Year with the participation of president Vladimir Putin. Also, the newlyweds were presented with a designer cake from the Russia exhibition organizers, and the Taimyr administration presented a certificate to an electronics store for equipment purchase.

Young Dolgan couple Andrey Rudinsky and Sofia Maruhnenko chose traditional folk costumes instead of the usual wedding dresses. Andrey works as a mechanic in the Hatanga sea trade port, and in his free time he is engaged in fishing and hunting. Sofia works as a music teacher in a Hatanga kindergarten. The newlyweds are members of the Dolgan family club Hegerim and are trying to preserve and pass on to future generations the culture, traditions and customs of the Dolgans in the village of Hatanga.

“We are very happy to be part of this wonderful festival. We have a storm of emotions, we will definitely remember this day for the rest of our lives! We met two years ago, when Andrey came to Hatanga after serving in the army. We immediately developed a very good relationship, complete mutual understanding. We were planning a wedding, but it turned out that the festival accelerated our decision to start a family. And we are happy about it! We thank the organizers of the festival for the wonderful atmosphere”, Sofia Maruhnenko shared her impressions on the page of the Agency for the Development of Northern Territories.
