#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The event will take place in Talnah and Norilsk. This time, northerners will learn about new aspects of geography, play Believe It or Not, improve their knowledge of Geography and maybe even make geographical discoveries for themselves.
Let us recall that for the first time the Geography Night was held in Russia and the world on August 18, 2020 at the initiative of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS). The project started on Geographer’s Day and was dedicated to the Russian Geographical Society’s 175th anniversary. The Geography Night event symbolizes the beginning of a new field season and is part of the traditions of geography students who organize informal meetings after the exam session before leaving for summer practice.
The Norilsk Museum became part of the Geography Night in 2022. The program of our northern action is dedicated to the Arctic, Norilsk and Taimyr. This year the museum will participate in the event for the third time – the event will be held on May 31 in the Talnah branch of the museum, and on June 1 in the First House of Norilsk in the museum square.
On Friday, May 31, in the Talnah branch of the museum, visitors will listen to the Skalisty mine geologist Sergey Ufimtsev’s report – The Spherulites Distribution Geography, and the story of the life safety teacher of school No. 41, Anna Karlova – The Geography of Solo Travel on the Putorana Plateau. Adults and children will be able to take a quiz on their knowledge of the Talnah monuments and streets.
On Saturday, June 1, in the First House of Norilsk, the Geography Night guests will feel like polar explorers and play Believe It or Not, dedicated to the Taimyr geographical expeditions and the discoverers of Norilsk. The feature of the game is black boxes and the prospect of identifying the object lying inside by touch.
