#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Indigenous Peoples International Day in Taimyr was met in a cozy atmosphere. Dudinka mayor’s office, the district administration, family clubs’ representatives, the Taimyr Indigenous Peoples Association members, the city residents and guests walked in a festive column.
At the ice arena Taimyr, the holiday began with the friendship fire ignition and greetings in five languages.
“In any language, any nation has fundamental concepts such as life, love, joy, mother. Each of these words sound differently, but the meaning is clear to everyone. The peoples living in Taimyr are the unifying force of our great Motherland, the force of Russia. From the bottom of my heart I congratulate you on the holiday!” said the municipal district head Evgeny Vershinin.
At the festival, distinguished northerners were awarded for their contribution to the preservation and development of the indigenous peoples’ original culture. Nikolay Kirgizov, a bone and horn carver, was awarded a certificate of honor from the regional parliament, and Nina Landina, head of the club formation of the Taimyr House of Folk Art, received a letter of thanks.
At the ice arena, a national courtyard with chooms, tea and sweets was organized. The guests took part in national games, visited exhibitions and sales of objects of arts and crafts.
In the Taimyr Oikumene, the guests were greeted by the chooms’ hospitable mistresses and the Taimyr House of Folk Art’s employees. The Taimyr Museum of Local Lore prepared the program Games in the Taimyr Camp. There was also a photo exhibition Novaya settlement is Commonwealth of Two Peoples timed to coincide with the settlement’s 70th anniversary. Visitors could try on national costumes and take pictures for memory.
Also, the northerners met with Konstantin Kuksin, the founder of the Nomadic Culture Museum in Moscow, who came to Taimyr to replenish his knowledge about the peninsula’s indigenous ethnic groups. The expert spoke about the museum creation history, the world’s nomadic peoples’ features, showed a video from the popular science series Nomads.
In conclusion, the guests tried the traditional dishes of the nomadic peoples of the world: Mongolian salty milk tea, Kyrgyz kurt, Australian mullimbimbi, quinoa porridge.
Earlier, Taimyr celebrated the Fisherman Day, the Reindeer Herder Day and Dudinka’s 356th anniversary.
