In Norilsk, the selection of candidates took place for the fourth time.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. This year, 17 talented musicians and 14 gifted artists competed for the title of foundation scholarship recipient, and five young creators became winners. From March 29 to 31, experts selected the best musicians and artists.

The competitive selection was held in close partnership with the Norilsk Development Agency, the New Names Foundation, the Department of Culture and Art of the city administration, also with the support of the Nornickel company and the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.

“Our competition takes place in 20 regions of the country, and every year we visit different cities in search of new talents. In Norilsk, the competitive selection takes place in a special way: here the organizers make a mini-festival that lasts three days. The main stage of the program is listening to children and viewing artwork. From 20–30 participants, we have to select the most gifted ones who will receive the scholarship, and most importantly, the opportunity to attend the summer creative school in Suzdal. The main work with talents takes place there: for two weeks the guys study with the best teachers in the country, honing their skills every day. We pay close attention to teachers of talented children also and try to do everything so that they come to Suzdal together with the children and get acquainted with new effective teaching methods”, said Alexander Petrosyan, vice-president of the New Names Foundation.

Let us recall that the expert commission included: Daniil Kopylov, associate professor of the P.I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory in piano class; Anna Yanchishina, associate professor of the P.I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory in violin class; Leonid Guryev, associate professor of the P.I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory in the class of brass instruments.

The competition opened with an instrumental concert by teachers of educational cultural institutions and experts from the New Names Foundation. The next day, three series of master classes with experts took place. Thus, 13 young artists improved their skills in fine art under the mentoring of the New Names Foundation expert Maria Markelova, a member of the Russia Artists Union, the International Art Foundation and a teacher at the Design Department of the Moscow Financial and Legal Academy.

Masters were also held for musicians who honed their skills in playing the violin, wind instruments and piano. At the audition, 14 children showed their musical talents.

“I was pleasantly surprised by Norilsk. First of all, I was amazed by the children: I noted that everyone had a rather high level of training and it was a pleasure to work with them. Even at the master class for violinists, I noted that they play at a high level. The audition was a breeze for me: I really enjoyed it”, shared Anna Yanchishina.

The top five talents who will receive a scholarship from the New Names Foundation and go to the International Summer School in Suzdal include: Vasily Goryaev, balalaika class; Vladislav Shevchenko, clarinet class; Mikhail Kochelorov, saxophone class; Nikolay Safonov, cello class; Alena Kozlova, fine arts.

“This year we broke all our records, because five Norilsk residents got scholarships. Among the scholarship recipients there are two people who have received the award not for the first time. Clarinetist Vladislav Shevchenko from the Norilsk Children’s Art School became a foundation scholarship recipient for the third time. And cellist Nikolay Safonov from the Norilsk Children’s Music School received the scholarship for the second time”.
