The Rosprirodnadzor federal nature preserving agency conducts aerial surveys of predators listed in the Red Book as part of the Master of the Arctic project.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Rosprirodnadzor specialists conducted a study of the polar bear population between Yamal and Taimyr. This is part of the Master of the Arctic project for aerial census of polar bears, said the Rosprirodnadzor head Svetlana Radionova.

She noted that research was carried out both from the air and at sea.

“Specialists flew more than 30 thousand kilometers across the Arctic zone of Russia and recorded 22 Red Book bears. The participants in marine scientific expeditions reached the archipelagos of Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land and discovered 20 more rare predators – biosamples were taken from six of them, and collars with satellite transmitters were put on two females”, says Svetlana Radionova’s Telegram channel.

It is also noted that over four years, the working group examined more than 20 cases when polar bears came out to people. As before, Rosprirodnadzor advocates the creation of “bear patrols” in these animals’ habitats.

We previously told you that climate change could lead to the polar bears extinction.
