Eco-volunteers created virtual Putorana plateau

September 28, 2020

The 20-minute video tour was filmed by the participants of the PonesLos! eco-marathon.

Soon the Virtual Plateau will appear on social networks and on the youtube channel of the Taimyr Reserves directorate. The main characters of the film are the protected areas of the Taimyr peninsula: Krasnye Kamni, lake Lama and such remote waterfalls of the plateau as Bolshoy Kureisky.

To implement the large-scale project, six teams of the PonesLos! eco-marathon united at once: Smelt, Territory, Ecotiki, Ecoenergy, Ecofamily and Ecorka. The eco-volunteers traveled to Krasnye Kamni themselves, but they had to rent a helicopter to film remote places of the plateau.

It took almost two months to gather information for the film. The activists were well helped by the Taimyr Reserves directorate. It took another month to process the footage – that is six hours of video. As a result, the Virtual Plateau fit into 20 minutes.

One of the initiators of the film was Arthur Andreyev, an environmental volunteer of the Territory team. He was engaged in filming with a quadcopter.

“We had many difficulties. This year is abnormal, very dry, the water is low, and there were a lot of fires. Therefore, the scale of the Putorana plateau was difficult to capture. Because of the smoke, the visibility was poor”, says Arthur. “Besides, we were afraid of the wind, it often happens in those places. However, in this regard, we were lucky, otherwise half of what we have filmed would not exist”.

The free video tour of the protected areas of Taimyr will appear at the end of the week. According to eco-volunteers, it will be of interest to everyone: children, adults, those who have never been to Norilsk, and those who live here but have never traveled outside the city.

As the This Is Taimyr wrote earlier, the Putorana plateau was recently included in a unique VR-film about Russia, shot by the Russian Geographical Society.
