Dudinka port workers held family holiday

July 09, 2024

Sports and entertainment locations, master classes and delicious food were organized for guests.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A large-scale family holiday for port workers and their relatives was held at the Polar Transport Branch (PTB).

Last Sunday, a summer embankment opened at the port authority – the site has been a center of attraction for Dudinka residents for many years. The holiday was timed to coincide with the Day of Sea and River Fleet Workers and became another good reason to spend time with family.

“In the Year of the Family, such events acquire special value. But, in addition, today is the Day of the Sea and River Fleet Workers. Port workers celebrate it as their main professional holiday. I see a lot of our workers who came here with their families. It’s really cool that people take pride in their work. And we really have much to be proud of. I want to wish everyone a good day, with joy, with family and friends”, said the Nornickel’s Polar Transport Branch’s director Alexey Novakov.

Sports locations and free rental of scooters and sports equipment were organized for guests. The program included relay races, competitions and master classes for young Dudinka residents.

“The children created real masterpieces from colored sand and decorated the square with chalk paintings on the port theme. Each child received cotton candy and a balloon with the branch’s symbols as a gift”, the organizers said.

In addition, guests saw port equipment – working reach stackers, a Volvo front loader, a new Locust mini-loader, a Sany truck crane and a Hyster forklift. The virtual reality simulator aroused particular interest among the public. Children and adults were able to try themselves in the role of a port worker and operate the Kirovets gantry crane, a Liebherr LHM mobile crane and a reach stacker.

A win-win lottery was held for visitors – guests had to answer questions about the Polar Transport Branch. Prizes included T-shirts and mugs for adults and sweet prizes for kids.

Just ten years ago, on the summer embankment there was a so-called graveyard of portal cranes – a place where mechanisms that had expired were put. The port management cleaned the territory, and in 2017, the anniversary year for the port and the city, the industrial art object Dudinka Giraffe appeared on the embankment, created from the Kirovets gantry crane, which had served for more than 40 years. Later, the embankment was completely paved and equipped with benches and trash cans. And in 2022, a complex of street exercise equipment for strength training appeared on the site, which any city resident can use.
