#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Dikson harbor is celebrating its anniversary; it has been working for the benefit of northerners for 90 years. The port is used to support the life of the village of Dikson, Arctic expeditions and polar stations, as well as for hydrometeorological and hydrographic maintenance of the Northern Sea Route.
According to materials stored in the Taimyr Museum of Local Lore, the history of the port dates back to 1934, when a decision was made to build it for refueling and parking of ships traveling along the Northern Sea Route. This location of the port was due to the fact that Dikson harbor was located at the confluence of the Yenisey with the Arctic ocean, which was convenient for future transportation. In the same year, the construction of the port and village began with the help of 145 builders who arrived from Arhangelsk and Igarka.
In 1941, the main pier was put into operation, but cargo began to be accepted already in 1936 at the berths built on Cone island. In the 1970s, warehouses, a new port administration building, and a residential building were built in the port.
In 1995–2004, the port was part of the Nornickel’s Polar Transport Branch, and since 2004 it has been recognized as the municipal unitary enterprise Dikson Sea Port.
Since 2020, the port has been operating a pass across the state border of the Russian Federation, providing year-round navigation. Today, the enterprise is gradually developing: in 2023, the new Yenisey coal terminal was put into operation.
