#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The popularity of traveling on river and sea vessels to the most remote and inaccessible places in Russia is growing.
The expedition and research cruises trend is emerging in the cruise market. Tour programs on the ship Professor Hromov, specially built for expeditions, or on the icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy to the North Pole can be called purely expeditionary routes. River liners offer rather non-standard routes for mass cruise holidays to places that are difficult to reach otherwise than by boat.
This year, the Vodohod company offers a cruise on the Maxim Gorky motor ship and tours of winter and summer Baikal – Baikal Expedition.
“The demand for Yenisey Expedition cruises on the Maxim Gorky at the end of January was 27 percent higher compared to the same period last year”, said Ilya Suhovolsky, deputy general director for development of Vodohod.
Among the new products of Vodohod is the express format of the Yenisey Expedition for 6–9 days at a lower price, reports the Russian Shipping publication with reference to the Russian Union of Travel Industry.
“Creating such routes is a serious risk for companies, as it requires additional costs and effort, but it is worth it given the audience’s demand. People already know that in Russia there are cruises not only on well-known routes, primarily along the Volga, but also to more remote and little-explored places”, explained Andrey Mikhailovsky, Infoflot CEO.
Earlier, the Vodohod company announced its intention to build three more cruise ships. Tourist ships will now enter Arctic ports without border control.
