#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. This year, one can observe a beautiful and rare phenomenon in Taimyr – the flowering of the permafrost long-liver – Dahurian larch.
These trees have adapted to the Arctic and, thanks to a powerful root system, can live up to 300-400 years. They bloom only once every four to five years after reaching ‘adulthood’ – this is 15-20 years.
The amazing flowering of this tree was captured by Norilsk photographer Mikhail Podolyak who shared pictures of the ‘taiga rose’ on social networks.
“Male and female flowers are side by side. The males are yellow and spikelet-like and produce pollen. And female ones resemble beautiful rosebuds. They are usually pink, red or purple. For such flowering, larch was nicknamed the ‘taiga rose’. After pollination, the flowers gradually turn into cones”, Mikhail said.
The Norilsk photographer also shared pictures of the Ambarnaya river’s melting glaciers and the white-turquoise ice of the waterfalls on the Red Stones.
