#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Despite the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has had a certain impact on the work of large metallurgical companies, the global industry markets still retained stability and development prospects. This was the opinion of the participants of the online meeting of the Safety Committee of the International Platinum Association (KB IPA), which was held with the participation of representatives of the world’s leading producers of platinum group metals (PGM), as well as metallurgical companies that use PGM for the production of their products: Heraeus, Anglo American Platinum, BASF, Impala Platinum, Johnson Matthey and others.
In his speech, Dmitry Grigoriev, director of the Information Protection and IT Infrastructure Department at Nornickel, noted that the widespread use of catalysts to reduce emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere, the tightening of corporate environmental responsibility, as well as the use of batteries for electric vehicles, contribute to an increase in demand for PGMs. At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that environmental safety is an integral part of modern industrial companies.
“The reuse of strategically demanded metals contributes to the development of circular economic chains that significantly reduce the impact on the environment”, he said.
The participants in the meeting of the KB IPA paid special attention to the topic of social stability and support of the population in a pandemic in the regions where the enterprises of the members of the association are located.
