#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Nornickel company’s shares are still one of the most popular Russian securities. They are included in the top 5 on the Moscow Exchange. The vice president for working with investors and sustainable development of the company Vladimir Zhukov told about this during the Nornickel’s direct line.
“Our capitalization is more than 30 billion dollars, or two trillion rubles. We enter the top ten largest Russian public companies in Russia. Nornickel has almost 400 thousand private Russian investors who own just more than ten percent of our shares. But recently, the president of the company set a very ambitious task – to bring this share to 25 percent. This is good for Nornickel. Such investors have a long investment horizon, they are more calm about insurance risks”, Vladimir Zhukov shared his opinion.
The top manager also explained why, even in such difficult geopolitical conditions, the company seeks to meet the high requirements of ESG and undergo international certification. In particular, recently Nornickel has passed an independent assessment of the extracting assets of the Norilsk and Kola Division according to one of the most stringent international standards – IRMA. As a result, they received a basic assessment. Now the task is to reach the next level of assessment – 50 percent of the correspondence. Now a roadmap is being developed for several years in advance.
In addition, issues included in the ESG sphere directly affect the production of the company:
“Climate change is not only risks, but also opportunities for us. The world automobile industry is gradually refusing to produce machines with internal combustion engines and switches to electric cars. For us, this means – less sales of palladium, but more sales of nickel, cobalt and copper.
Given the new challenges, it has become more difficult to maintain the position of the leader. But in order to correspond to the position of the leader, we cannot and will not lower the bar. We will take it and set new ambitious goals”.
