#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. International Book Giving Day is celebrated in over 40 countries worldwide. In Russia, on February 14 each year since 2017, people have been donating books to libraries, orphanages and schools. This initiative involves publishers, bookstores, libraries, charitable foundations, and community organizations.
The celebration’s main goal is to highlight that printed books remain a meaningful gift and retain their value even in our digital age.
Sergey Stepashin, the Russian Book Union president, noted that International Book Giving Day “reminds us how simple it is to express love for someone – just give them a good book that brings real joy”.
You can celebrate Book Giving Day at schools, workplaces, or within your family. The Russian Book Union also encourages book lovers to share their reading experiences on social media and post photos of their favorite books.
On this worldwide event day and on other occasions, people can share books with strangers at bookcrossing points. In Norilsk, these exchange sites are set up at the city public library, the Rodina cinema, and the foyer of the swimming pool on Komsomolskaya street.
Events related to International Book Giving Day will continue in Norilsk until February 16. According to the organizers, the program includes a performance by the Blue Bird local theater studio, workshops for making bookmarks, and other various activities.
