#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The theme of the festival of scientific discoveries this year was the Great Arctic Dream. The sites will be organized in Norilsk, Dudinka, Nickel, Zapolyarny and Monchegorsk.
New season and new format: the event has become more educational than entertaining.
The introductory lecture was devoted to new technologies that are now coming to the Arctic. These are new materials, and new types of energy, transport, communication technologies and technologies for studying the Arctic. Part of the lecture was devoted to energy, hydrogen energy, in conclusion, the guests were shown the Snezhinka hydrogen station, which is being jointly built by all of Russia and which will be installed in Yamal in 2025. It will work out all the new technologies that will help make life in the Arctic more interesting and better.
According to the speakers, it is necessary to switch to hydrogen transport, which will help reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emissions, which leads to climate instability. In the North, it is better to use such vehicles, rather than battery cars. Now in the world, mining dump trucks are being converted to hydrogen, and, since there are quite a lot of minerals in the North, this would be very useful.
Exact science lovers came to the meeting with Dmitry Pobedinsky, a Russian physicist, blogger, creator of the Physics from Pobedinsky YouTube channel.
The topic discussed at the lecture was not about the Arctic, but it certainly attracted the attention of all fans of science with a touch of fantasy. Fantasy, according to the lecture author, helped to talk about serious things, scientific and physical concepts.
We talked about various fantastic gadgets and devices that schoolchildren saw in fairy tales, films: devices for levitation, time travel, and whether it is possible to translate them into reality from the point of view of physics and modern science.
At the same time, in another room, schoolchildren were discussing the topic of ecotourism. Norilsk has great prospects, because the Putorana plateau is nearby. There is permafrost here, you can go north – towards the Arctic Ocean, you can develop water and hiking tourism.
“The Nornickel company traditionally pays great attention to the popularization of science and scientific achievements in the regions where the company operates. Many are familiar with programs that are implemented for both schoolchildren and students, as well as festivals that everyone can visit. The Arctic is a place of power, a field of talents, a territory where you can explore and invent. And today I wish everyone to fulfill their Arctic dream”, said Irina Zhuykova, head of Social and Charitable Programs at Nornickel’s Social Policy Department.
Every year the festival is gaining momentum more and more. It is very important that scientific facts are explained to schoolchildren in an easy and accessible way. And later it prompts them to create their own ideas and projects.
The festival opening was truly enchanting. The ceremony program included the Children Voice show winner performance, a science show from the I MAKE team, a laser performance that struck with the light rays play.
The festival first day program ended in the fablab, where the Russian mathematician and mathematical economist, popularizer of mathematics among children and adults, candidate of economic sciences, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences and author of the Matkult-hello! channel Alexey Savvateyev told schoolchildren that exact science can be seen in every subject around us.
