Arctic Cup rescheduled for November

June 05, 2020

Athletes in the double-mix discipline will become participants in the Arctic Cup tournament this year.

The Arctic Curling Cup – the only international curling tournament that takes place beyond the Arctic Circle – has already become the new Taimyr brand. This year the games were planned to be held from May 28 to June 1. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, the deadlines have already been moved twice.

“In August, it will be definitely impossible to organize it, but it will certainly take place in the autumn. Perhaps, before coming to the region we will be required to take certain security measures. Norilsk and Dudinka are ready to accept the tournament participants – curling has already become a national Taimyr sport”, RIA Novosti quotes the RCF President Dmitry Svishchev.

Athletes in the double-mix discipline will become participants in the fifth consecutive Arctic Cup tournament this year. The strongest teams from Canada, the USA, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Scotland and Russia will participate in mixed pairs competitions.

For the first time, the Arctic Curling Cup was held in the Taimyr ice arena in 2017 with the support of the Russian Federation Ministry of Sports and the Nornickel company. Last year, ten teams from around the world participated in the cup.
