#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Amphibious all-terrain vehicles can become an alternative to Mi-8 helicopters in terms of cargo and passenger transportation. According to experts, they are more efficient and safer for both cargo and passenger transportation.
“We’ve calculated that with an equal load capacity of four thousand kilograms and average speeds of more than 25 kilometers per hour, the efficiency of passenger and cargo transportation by an amphibious all-terrain vehicle is higher than by a Mi-8 helicopter. All-terrain vehicles can perform transportation work in any weather, down to minus 60 degrees, unlike helicopters, the share of which is about ten percent per year”, said Nadezhda Filippova, professor at the Moscow Automobile and Road State Technical University (MADI), head of the Northern Forum working group on transport and logistics.
She noted that all-terrain vehicles can be adapted for a wide range of tasks, TASS reports.
“Safe, highly passable inter-village and tourist buses for transporting up to 24 passengers and cargo versions of vehicles with a carrying capacity of up to four to five tons can improve regional connectivity and Arctic transportation of goods and passengers”, the specialist noted.
Currently, the family of amphibious all-terrain vehicles includes more than 35 modifications – cargo, passenger, cargo-passenger, with different engine options and wheel arrangements. The vehicles are used in the Krasnoyarsk region, Taimyr, Yamal and Chukotka. The company plans to create a service center for all-terrain vehicles in Yakutsk.
Earlier, This Is Taimyr reported that the Ministry of Emergency Situations would send new helicopters to the Arctic regions.
