#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Russian Emergencies Ministry is planning to send new Mi-8 helicopters in Arctic version to ensure the safety of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and the Arctic regions of the Russian Federation. They are planned to be delivered in 2026-2027.
“We have formed an Arctic detachment, which consists of new helicopters specially adapted for the Arctic. Their purpose is to ensure safe passage by icebreakers along the entire Northern Sea Route. It is planned to deliver six machines in 2026-2027, three more will come later”, Deputy Emergencies Ministry minister Roman Kurynin said, as quoted by TASS. https://tass.ru/spb-news/22655699
The Murmansk region received such a helicopter in 2023.
“This super-modern helicopter has already saved more than one person, including in critical conditions when fishermen were in distress. Technological equipment and pilots’ professionalism made it possible to save people by touching a wheel to a rock and hovering in the air. These helicopters significantly reduce the risk of death”, said Andrei Chibis, the Murmansk region’s governor.
The Mi-8AMTSH-VA Arctic helicopter is characterised by improved thermal insulation of the fuselage and heating of the oil system and transmission, which allows the engine to be quickly started at temperatures as low as minus 60 degrees Celsius. And with additional tanks, the vehicle can fly for seven hours without refuelling.
