2.6 trillion rubles to be invested in Arctic in ten years

March 07, 2024

The program was discussed at the Arctic Youth Forum.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Russian government will invest about 2.6 trillion rubles in the development of the Arctic in the next ten years. This was reported at the Arctic Youth Forum, which is taking place these days in Kronstadt. Scientists and students discuss the prospects for the development of the Russian Federation’s Arctic zone, mineral development, innovative technologies and ecology.

During the event, the further development of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) was also discussed.

In ten years, cargo traffic along the NSR should increase 100 times. At the same time, thanks to the icebreaker fleet development, the Leader icebreaker creation in particular, which will be able to break ice 6-7 meters high, the line of the sea route itself will change – it will pass almost along the North Pole itself.

Let us recall that in 2023, 36 million tons of cargo were transported along the NSR – this is five times more than the USSR record. President Vladimir Putin, in his speech addressed to the Federal Assembly, invited foreign companies to use the NSR.

Previously, we reported an increase in the seaports’ capacity in 2023; weather forecasters will be able to online forecast the weather on the Northern Sea Route with 90 percent accuracy.
