Сultural journalism school opens in Norilsk

January 26, 2022

The College of Arts’ project has won the Nornickel’s World of New Opportunities competition.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Yulia Ashikova, the college’s deputy director, believes that the Norilsk creative life needs more active professional coverage in the media.

Until now, ‘old cultural workers’ recall the publications of legendary Gunar Kroders in local newspapers.

And Norilsk creative life in the second half of the 20th century was bright, non-provincial, although rather closed. The northern city could afford to open monthly exhibitions of Norilsk artists, invite Norilsk musicians and performers to concerts, delight the townspeople with bright theatrical premieres. And there always was someone to write about all this, tell and show on television.

Yulia Ashikova calls Zapolyarnaya Pravda correspondent Irina Danilenko, who left for St. Petersburg at the end of last year, the last of the Mohicans.

The course of the school of cultural journalism – 2022 at the NCA is not being created from scratch. Since 2014, the college has been implementing the professional module ‘correspondent activity in the media in the field of culture and art’.

The school students will be able to become not only high school students and those planning to engage in cultural journalism, but also employees of cultural institutions who need additional skills. And even citizens who are interested in culture.

Lectures, master classes, seminars throughout the year will be accompanied by publications in the media.

The school program includes meetings with famous cultural figures of the Krasnoyarsk region, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg and, of course, Taimyr and Norilsk. Among the locals, the list already includes the Norilsk drama chief director Anna Babanova and the Taimyr Main Chum director, an excellent artist Lyubov Popova.
