Three quarters of Russians love winter

January 18, 2024

Skiing, sledding and skating are the best winter activities.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The best winter recreation is outdoor sports, Russians believe, but going on a visit and just sitting at home can also be nice. This is evidenced by the results of a VTsIOM survey conducted at the end of December.

Thus, 43 percent of respondents said that the ideal vacation is sledding, alpine skiing and other winter sports. About 46 percent actively practice such recreation, skiing and snowboarding (24 percent), skating (18 percent), and going hunting and fishing (10 percent).

A third of respondents prefer to go on a visit in winter (37 percent), and another 34 percent prefer to spend the cold season at home in a warm place.

In general, Russian residents like winter – 74 percent of survey participants agreed with this – and most of all – like it for snow (35 percent), New Year’s holidays (28 percent), winter sports (17 percent) and fresh air (17 percent). However, there are also things that are especially annoying in winter – snowstorms and cold weather (40 percent), utility accidents (17 percent) and problems with clearing streets (16 percent).

Meanwhile, January is the best time to plan summer vacation.
