#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The thousandth guest visited the Angidrit mine. There is an underground training ground here, where in the conditions of real mine workings you can get acquainted with the process of underground ore mining, immerse yourself in the harsh life of a miner, sit in the cabin of a loading and haulage machine and control the boom of a drilling rig.
At the beginning of 2024, Nornickel launched a series of industrial excursions to mining enterprises located in Norilsk. Today, three excursions are available to a wide range of visitors.
One of them is a trip to the underground training ground of the Angidrit mine and is held jointly with the Nornickel corporate university. Here, in the conditions of real mine workings, you can get acquainted with the process of underground ore mining, immerse yourself in the harsh life of a miner, sit in the cabin of a loading and hauling machine and control the boom of a drilling rig. There is no question why this trip is so popular with Norilsk residents and visitors to the city: the mine is a place that is impossible for just anyone to get to.
The second industrial excursion is to the mining equipment simulators in Talnah. Here, those who wish can drive through virtual underground mine workings and even unload their own bucket of ore in a virtual mine.
The only seasonal (available from May to September inclusive), but the most large-scale excursion is the historical and industrial route to the quarry of the Zapolyarny mine – the northernmost quarry in Eurasia. It is organized with the participation of the Medvezhy Rouchey society. Here, guests not only learn about the history of Norilsk development and learn about open-pit ore mining, but also have the opportunity to see the quarry in all its splendor and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city panorama.
Anna Chernyshova, chief specialist of the Nornickel PD director’s office’s administrative department, notes that the outgoing year has proven that excursions are not in vain extremely popular.
“For Norilsk residents and city guests, this is one of the few opportunities to visit, for example, the start of a large chain of metal production, go underground and see with their own eyes how the ore mining process works. Today, our thousandth industrial tourist has taken part in our excursion, and this is a significant event for us. We see that we are doing something useful: people go home with an understanding of the importance, necessity and complexity of mining”, she notes.
The main pool of guests are Norilsk residents, although closer to summer the number of tourists from the mainland increases: many are attracted by the Putorana plateau, but once you are here, you can’t help but look into the underground treasury of the Earth. Moreover, Norilsk has something to brag about.
