#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Despite all the difficulties that exist in the country today, both in terms of the demographic situation and great competition for personnel, Nornickel does not plan to cut jobs. Anastasia Perfilyeva, deputy director for personnel and social policy at Nornickel’s Polar Branch, spoke about this in an interview with the Severny Gorod TV channel.
“Today we are optimizing ineffective vacancies. These are primarily auxiliary vacancies, for example, work distributor, computer operator, everything that more qualified employees can do with more productive work. But this does not affect the main technological personnel in any way”, the speaker explained.
The Polar Division plans to recruit basic technological personnel, repair personnel, and skilled workers: turners, milling operators. The only limitation is the hiring of administrative and management personnel.
“What is it connected with? As a socially oriented employer, we are committed to providing our employees with maximum opportunities for career growth. The company has launched a lot of career programs, including internal ones. We have been working towards this for a very long time. About 2.5 thousand people have already become participants in the project”.
In addition, a goal has been set – 80 percent of vacancies for managers, specialists, and employees will be filled from the company’s internal personnel reserve.
“It is important for us to develop expertise within the company. If there is absolutely no another way or it is a very narrow qualification and competence, only then we hire from outside. As for the influx, this is a very ambitious goal”, says Anastasia Perfilyeva.
In 2022, the Norilsk Division employed six thousand people. When the Sulfur Program was launched, professions appeared that were not in the qualification directories. The company created training programs.
“In 2023, about four thousand people were attracted to the Norilsk division. And this is just the beginning, because our investment program does not stop. The Sulfur Program should reach full capacity. We will build TOF-RF 3PK (third stage of the Talnah concentrating plant), and plans to develop the mineral resources complex of our Polar Branch and Medvezhy Roochey field. Of course, this requires an influx of new qualified personnel”, said the deputy director of the Nornickel Polar Branch for personnel and social policy.
The company hired more than two thousand people through recruitment centers. Today the geography of centers is expanding. A month ago, such a center opened in Irkutsk, and in just half a month the application for 58 people was completed.
The share of non-resident personnel is growing year by year. In 2023, it already amounted to 40 percent of the total hiring volume. For example, in 2022 there were only 32.
“Our reference program Refer a Friend also works very well. With its help, we practically filled 250 vacant staff positions. That is, when an employee brings his friend, the employee gets a job. In three months, the one who brought him receives a monetary reward. And of course, the systematic work with universities continues, because we are interested in qualified, ambitious young people coming”, explained Anastasia Perfilyeva.
The Polar Division cooperates with the Siberian Federal University (SFU), the Ural Mining University, the St. Petersburg Mining University, and the Irkutsk Research University.
“In 2024, we are changing approaches to our flagship program Professional Start – this is when students from all universities come to us for practice. We thought for a long time about how to relaunch this program and make it truly a leader. And we see that these guys, the Professional Start graduates, will automatically be included in the company’s personnel reserve. We will guide each of them, hone the skills and competencies that he needs in order to build a career in the company. By analogy with our other flagship project First Arctic, where the guys go through a very tough selection sieve”.
The flagship university for the Norilsk Division is the Polar State University. Of the 350 students who come to the company annually, about 100 people are the PSU graduates.
