#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. During a working trip to Norilsk, the Russian minister for the Far East and the Arctic Development, Alexey Chekunkov, inspected the new Iceberg ice arena.
The hockey and skating facility was built on the initiative of the Nornickel company. One of the main ideas was to create conditions for sports and leisure for Talnah (a district of Norilsk) residents. A technical feature of the project is the use of the most modern air conditioning systems and maintaining the ice freezing temperature. The arena will be used all year round.
“The mass sports development remains and will always be the Nornickel’s priority. The Iceberg ice arena is a gift from the company to the Talnah residents and to everyone who loves sports. Everything here is equipped with the most modern equipment and computerized, so that a person can relax here, immerse himself in sports and escape from everyday worries. Let this arena become a home for the Talnah and Norilsk residents”, said Nikolay Utkin, senior vice president of the company, at the opening.
Alexey Chekunkov presented the Iceberg indoor ice rink director Valery Kustikov with a certificate worth ten million rubles for the purchase of an LED screen, gear and equipment for the skating rink. In a solemn atmosphere, the ministry head and the Nornickel’s Norilsk division head held a symbolic puck drop.
“Russia is a country of strong people, but there are areas in it where people are especially courageous. This, of course, is the Arctic, the Russian North, Norilsk and Taimyr, which are territories where projects of international scale are being implemented. By the decision of our president and the Russian government, with the participation of Nornickel, a project for the Norilsk socio-economic development is being implemented here. Following its example, a whole network of cities will now develop throughout the Russian Arctic – from Murmansk to Anadyr. This will be the territory of the most daring and ambitious projects, where new enterprises will be created, the Northern Sea Route and, of course, the northern Arctic cities will be developed, so that life in them will be decent, full and interesting. We will continue to build ice palaces, sports arenas, swimming pools, schools, and housing here. I thank Nornickel for this participation and for our joint work. I wish you, guys, sporting victories, health and all the best,” Alexey Chekunkov, minister of the Russian Federation for the Far East and the Arctic Development, told the young hockey players at Iceberg.
