#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The 10th anniversary of the ethnic festival celebrating the arrival of the Sun at the Talnah branch of the Norilsk Museum was a resounding success, attracting a full crowd. Guests engaged in games and rituals of the indigenous peoples of Taimyr, brought to the event by groups from the main chum – the Taimyr House of Folk Art from Dudinka.
Residents of Norilsk learned the legend of the world and the Taimyr first people creation, listened to songs from the Enets and Nenets, and experienced the sounds of the bargan (Jew’s harp).
“For the first time in Talnah, we participated in the Dolgan ritual Delberge and the Evenki Chichipkavun. At the interactive stations, visitors were offered a variety of workshops: the Nganasan taught participants how to discover their second name through the Name Giving ritual, and others could take lessons on playing the bargan”, reported the Norilsk Museum’s press service.
Additionally, Nenets and Dolgan artisans showed guests how to make a bird of happiness and a sun. Writer Anna Barbolina introduced Northern peoples’ board games.
Not only children but also adults eagerly participated in tug-of-war, jumped over a rope, and threw the maut. The program concluded with traditional round dances: Heiro, Yohoryo, Bear Dance.
For the festival, museum staff and employees of the main chum opened an exhibition titled Towards the Sun, which serves as a guide to the world of indigenous northern peoples. This exhibition will remain on display, and thematic museum sessions titled The Heiro Festival will be held for another month at the art gallery on Talnahskaya street. Earlier, residents of Norilsk welcomed the first sun with a mini-festival.
