#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Back in 1949, hydrogeologist Vladimir Derpgolts submitted a memorandum to the Norilsk combine authorities with such a title On the Resort Potential of the Norilsk Region. In it, he wrote about the healing value of mineral water, which literally flowed under the Norilsk people’s feet.
So, in the Ambarnaya river area, sources of hydrogen sulfide sulfate-calcium waters were found. Soda low-mineralized bicarbonate-sodium waters were found near the Nadezhda mount. Strong sodium chloride brines were found in the area of Hantaiskoye lake.
In Norilsk itself, two deposits of mineral waters were explored. One of them is in the area of the Valyok river.
Derpgolts believed that all of them were suitable for both balneological procedures and drinking.
Now, as experts say, Norilsk does not yet produce its own natural mineral water. A license is required for the extraction of mineral waters from the Valyok river deposit. And what is now bottled on our territory is not rather mineral water, but just drinking water.
In the last issue of the History Spot photo project we told about the USSR prime minister Alexey Kosygin’s visits to Norilsk. In fact, he was the second VIP in the country, in 1968 the northern city for the first time welcomed a guest of that level.
