#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The government, having considered its materials, also decided to start laying the mine before approving the reserves. On December 3, 1962, the Kaluga administration of the Shahtspetsstroy trust began shaft sinking.
The name Mayak was given to the mine at the Norilsk city conference. It was mainly young people who worked there: the construction site was declared the All-Union Komsomol shock-work construction.
At that time there was neither a bridge over Norilka nor a railway in Talnah. The construction cut off from Norilsk was difficult and was often called heroic and unique.
Nevertheless, in February 1965, almost two years ahead of schedule, the builders completed the three shafts and the main surface structures construction.
On April 22, 1965, the first underground explosion thundered and the first tons of associated vein ore came from the 175th horizon. In 1966, Mayak already produced more rich ore than the Norilsk-1 field mines. The official delivery of the Mayak first stage took place on December 31, 1966.
