#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. While there, he toured the Nadezhda metallurgical plant and shared his impressions on the city with us.
Kovalchuk participated in the Completely Different Thing project of the media company initiative, where he tried his hand at being a metallurgist. He noted that this profession shares some similarities with his own work as a hockey player.
“It’s a team effort; one person has little influence on the outcome. Teamwork is invaluable”.
This was Ilya Kovalchuk’s first visit to Norilsk, and here’s what he said about the city:
“It’s a wonderful place. The weather is great. They say there was a snowstorm, but luckily, it missed us”.
He also commented on the scale of the enterprise:
“A single bar weighs about 26 tons – that’s an impressive weight. The workers spend eight-hour shifts in this heat. Honestly, I could barely survive 15 minutes; I was drenched in sweat. So, hats off to everyone working at the plant”.
Kovalchuk also emphasized the development of hockey in the northern city:
“Vladimir Potanin is doing a tremendous job supporting sports in all its forms, especially hockey. So, when Alexander Yakushev and Alexey Kasatonov invited me, I agreed without hesitation – especially since I had never been here before. The most important thing for me was to meet the guys, have a chat, and share a piece of my experience”.
