#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. At the Botvinnik Central Chess House, the world chess champion Yan Nepomniachtchy and Nornickel senior vice president Larisa Zelkova signed a sponsorship agreement.
The long-term contract between the Nornickel company and the Russian chess player, who received the right to compete for the world title with the Norwegian Magnus Kalsen, is connected not only with the upcoming battle for the chess crown, but also with the subsequent tournament performances of Yan Nepomniachtchy.
According to the senior vice president of the company Larisa Zelkova, involving young people in chess is a promising way to develop the intellectual elite of Russia:
“For Nornickel, the support of young, ambitious and talented people is an important corporate strategy. This applies not only to the world of chess. We are sure that only well-educated and professional young people are capable of giving our country the future that we all deserve”.
Interaction with Yan Nepomniachtchy is not the first project of Nornickel aimed at the development of chess. In July of this year, the company supported the World Chess Cup held in Sochi and became the general partner of FIDE in the global development of children and youth chess.
At the ceremony of signing a new sponsorship agreement, the president of the Russian Chess Federation, Andrey Filatov, noted that he was very pleased with the support of the outstanding chess player by such a large company:
“Ahead of the challenger is the decisive training stage and the match in Dubai, and it is very important to feel support from a reliable partner”.
Yan Nepomniachtchy, 31, is ranked fourth in the ranking of the International Chess Federation. Russian grandmaster and world champion Norwegian Magnus Carlsen will meet in the match for the world chess crown, which will be held from November 24 to December 16 in Dubai during the World Expo.
