#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Ten Yamal musk ox calves are settling in their new home – the Taimyr village of Volochanka. Now the animals are in the so-called nursery, where they are fed with hay and salt. As Denis Terebikhin, the initiator of the creation of the first in Russia farm-camp for breeding and domestication of musk oxen, told This Is Taimyr, musk oxen react positively to people and do not regard them as a danger.
“The adaptation is going well. We made a small nursery, which is located in a large corral, to make it easier to observe the calves. The farm workers walk there and the musk oxen react normally. They also began to ‘hoof’ and independently get some vegetation out of the snow”, Terebikhin shared.
Some of the calves have already been given names: Yasvel, Yamal and Camomile. “Yamal is the easiest to remember, it is the largest”, Denis Terebikhin texted on his Facebook page.
Let us remind you that the Yamal musk oxen covered a long way from Salehard to Taimyr. For more than a day, the calves with their attendants were waiting out the blizzard in Norilsk, where the Nornickel company provided loaders and special transport.
Earlier, This Is Taimyr wrote that for a farm for breeding musk oxen in Volochanka, they allocated land with an area of 118 thousand hectares. The farm will open up new jobs for the residents of the village and help restore the population of musk oxen in Taimyr.
