#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Having studied mosquitoes living in the Novosibirsk region, specialists from the Vector virology center discovered about 30 new viruses. The center’s deputy director Valery Loktev reported about this.
“Yes, indeed, our mosquitoes carry a whole package of new viruses”, TASS quotes him as saying.
The center’s scientists collected and sequenced the viruses’ genomes, Loktev clarified.
He noted that they are talking about flaviviruses – the causative agents of natural focal infections. Up to 500 million people worldwide suffer from such viruses every year.
