#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. This year, using funds from the regional budget, a pilot project was implemented to expand the satellite communication channel in Hatanga, as a result of which its capacity increased fourfold.
Based on the results of testing the pilot project in Hatanga, a decision was made to scale it up in other Taimyr villages. This project was supported by the regional government, and it was included in the state program Development of the Information Society – 42 million rubles were allocated for its implementation in the regional budget for next year.
However, not all settlements where there is no other connection other than satellite Internet will be included in the program – the modernization of communication channels is planned for next year just in five villages.
In the coming years, Russia also plans to implement the Sphere project – it envisages the launch of new low-orbit satellite constellations that will provide remote Arctic villages with better quality Internet via satellite communications.
By 2030, all settlements with a population of 100 or more people are planned to be provided with cellular communication services and mobile Internet.
