The Arctic Development Project Office (PORA) will be one of the organizers of the Preservation and Development of the Native Languages of the Indigenous Peoples of Taimyr. 90 Years of Practice all-Russian conference. It will be held at the end of November in St. Petersburg on the basis of the Herzen State Pedagogical University’s Institute of the North Peoples. This was reported by the administration of the Taimyr Dolgan-Nenets municipal district. The event was organized as part of the 90th anniversary of Taimyr celebration.
“At the conference, the Enets primer will be presented, the participants will discuss the teaching and development of native languages, interaction with subsoil users and non-profit organizations. There will also be an exhibition of textbooks developed by Taimyr authors, a cycle of educational events and master classes on the culture of the indigenous peoples of Taimyr for schoolchildren in St. Petersburg”, the statement says.
The conference will be attended by deputy director of the Russian Academy of Sciences’s Institute of Linguistics Andrey Shluinsky, author of the first Enets primer Daria Bolina, deputy head of the Taimyr Dolgan-Nenets Municipal District for Education and Culture Tatyana Druppova, publisher Marina Rachinskaya, director of the Krasnoyarsk Arctic Taimyr Local Fund for the Promotion of Science, Culture and Sports, public representative of PORA in Taimyr Anna Kartashova and others.
“The Arctic Development Project Office is a member of the working group on the preparation of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, announced by the UN General Assembly. The organization is actively involved in preserving the languages of the indigenous peoples of the Russian North and it is not the first time that it has been a partner of socially significant projects in the field of ethnic education in Taimyr”, the administration said.
With the financial support of PORA, a foresight session on the preservation and development of the Enets language was held, the first Enets primer and a workbook for it were published, and a festival-competition – Revival of the native language through everyone – was organized. The Methodical landing project is underway, it is aimed at providing visual aids for the Dolgan and Nganasan languages of the school in the village of Volochanka. All these initiatives are implemented by the Krasnoyarsk Arctic Taimyr local fund for promoting the development of science, education and sports.
