#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Two Captains research expedition has completed to study the prospects for the use of amphibians and small aircraft in the Arctic, the Russian Defense Ministry’s Information and Mass Communications Department reports.
The expedition was launched in October 2020 and held by naval aviation of the Navy with the support of the main command of the aerospace forces, as well as the Russian Geographical Society. To conduct the research, the developers included in the expedition the Be-200 and L410 UVP-E20 – an amphibian aircraft and a compact aircraft for regional transportation with shortened take-off and landing.
The expedition took place along the Northern Sea Route, where the research flights of the Be-200 amphibian were performed. An examination of the NSR water area was carried out from Arhangelsk to Chukotka and further along the Kuril ridge to Sahalin.
“This research expedition results will allow to use the Northern Sea Route more effectively for shipping and for transportation by air”, said admiral Nikolay Evmenov, commander-in-chief of the Navy.
Earlier, the This Is Taimyr told about the development of a new light aircraft for the Arctic.
