Applications for the competition, which started in mid-September, are accepted until November 2. On December 28, the organizers will sum up the results. Last year 52 projects received grant support from Nornickel.
The World of New Opportunities charity program has been supporting and stimulating public initiatives for six years. It covers all the territories of Russia where Nornickel’s assets are located: Norilsk, Taimyr, Murmansk region, Chita, Transbaikalia. As before, the competition is held in nine nominations, covering different areas: from promoting healthy lifestyle to preserving and reviving cultural heritage. To apply for the participance, as well as to get familiarized with the competition terms, just go to the site of the World of New Opportunities project – nncharity.ru.
This year the initiative started in mid-September. Dozens of projects have already joined the competition for grants. At the same time, for representatives of the indigenous peoples of Taimyr in remote villages, the experts of the competition conduct field seminars and master classes.
One of those who have already received a grant is the CrossFit functional all-around federation. The athletes decided to create a stand-up surfing school, the first of its kind in Norilsk and the northernmost in the world.
According to the president of the federation, Konstantin Kochan, who owns the idea, it took only six months to implement the project from start to finish.
“The World of New Opportunities is a really great chance not only to realize your idea, but also to do it as efficiently and quickly as possible”, Konstantin Kochan admitted in an interview with the This Is Taimyr. “We bought all the necessary equipment, improved the mooring area near the Ol-Gul ski base, cleaned the lake, installed a specialized dock and announced the opening of the school enrollment. All that became possible thanks to the Nornickel and the municipality’s support”.
Konstantin Kochan also emphasized that the stand-up surfing school should have been solemnly presented in the summer, but the pandemic confused the athletes’ plans. As a result, it officially started working only in September. And, despite the cold weather, it is very popular with the townspeople. However, next year, with the warmth onset, the Norilsk residents will be able to massively get acquainted with this increasingly popular area of recreation and sports, the interlocutor is sure.
“We still have many ideas that can be implemented. Therefore, of course, we will take part in the competition more than once. Fortunately, as practice shows, winning it and getting serious support is not as difficult as it might seem. The main thing is to take a responsible and attentive approach to business and to choose really interesting and significant project”, concluded Konstantin Kochan.
