#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Scientists from the Siberian Federal University (SFU) have created biodegradable medicinal films from a biopolymer with antimicrobial and regenerating agents, the university’s press service reports. The material accelerates the healing of infected wounds and reduces the risk of scars.
The polymers included in the films are produced by special bacteria – the material is highly compatible with the human body. In addition, the films are hypoallergenic and can gradually release medicinal substances.
Products made from such material can be used both in a hospital setting and independently as an adhesive plaster familiar to users.
SFU biotechnologists have already tested films loaded with two antibiotics, and also studied films supplied with an antiseptic and a drug that enhances cell regeneration in humans and animals.
The new product is completely harmless to the environment. Used biofilms are easily destroyed by bacteria that live in soil and water.
Earlier, scientists developed a modular wind generator for the Arctic.
