#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Lobachevsky University, together with the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, conducted one of the world’s first studies on the climate’s negative impact on life expectancy with the participation of Yakutia indigenous population.
Scientists found that due to long-term adaptation to extreme climatic conditions, the Yakuts are biologically three to four years older than Russia European part’s inhabitants. This was reported on the Lobachevsky University website.
“Epigenetic abnormalities were found in genes responsible for adaptation to cold, metabolism and aging processes. The Yakut body produces the necessary energy faster due to the metabolism speed and the cell cycle, but, apparently, the biological price of such adaptation is accelerated aging”, said the study author, deputy director of the Aging Biology Institute at UNN, Mikhail Ivanchenko.
New data from epigenetic studies will help develop measures to improve the life quality and maintain active longevity of humans in the Far North.
Now Nizhny Novgorod scientists are determining the epigenetic age of company employees who came to Yakutia from the European part of Russia. Having compared the biomarkers of visitors and the indigenous population, the researchers plan to develop a system for early diagnosis and correction of the body accelerated aging for professional medicine in the Far North enterprises.
Previously, scientists developed food supplements for Arctic residents.
