#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Russian Geographical Society has opened submissions for the 10th anniversary photo competition The Most Beautiful Country.
From January 18 to March 31, 2024, the RGS accepts photographs taken on the territory of Russia.
For many years, photographers from The Most Beautiful Country have been presenting impressive results of their work to the competition, involving viewers in an exciting virtual journey through our vast and beautiful homeland, sharing vivid emotions. How can touching pictures from the life of wild animals, unusual and sometimes mysterious natural phenomena, incredible beauty, almost fabulous landscapes leave anyone indifferent?
Participation in the competition is absolutely free. Author can be amateur or professional photographers without restrictions on age, citizenship and place of residence. The Most Beautiful Country is gaining popularity among young photographers under the age of 16 inclusive, for whom a separate competition has been held since 2018. There is only one condition – all photographs should be taken on Russian territory.
The main theme of the Russian Geographical Society photo competition remains nature, but in some categories the authors can introduce their countrymen, compatriots, tell the story of their lives, show the viewer people living nearby, and admire their work and creativity.
The works submitted to the competition will be reviewed by a commission consisting of professional photographers and photo editors. Experts will determine the finalists in each category.
In 2024, two new nominations appeared in the competition – Photo Project, as well as The Most Beautiful Desktop Wallpaper – the works of ten finalists will be pre-installed in the Astra Linux operating system.
Every year, the partners of the The Most Beautiful Country competition make their choice.
Based on the results of an open online voting, a work will be selected from among the finalists’ photographs, the author of which will receive the People’s Choice Award from the Russian Geographical Society.
The organizers have prepared a very unusual special prize for the anniversary photo competition. Its owners will be three photographers, whom representatives of the Russian Geographical Society will choose among all the winners over ten years. The laureates will have the opportunity to participate and film in the most interesting and exciting expeditions of the Russian Geographical Society, which will take place in 2025, will be able to touch big science and see how discoveries are born.
“It’s interesting to see how generations of photographers change. New people come, their work is distinguished by original ideas and unusual solutions. Many participants visit places in Russia that have never been photographed and actually make photographic discoveries”, noted photographer Sergey Gorshkov, who photographed the Putorana plateau in Taimyr and has been participating in the work of The Most Beautiful Country photo competition’s jury for many years.
At various times, in various nominations, the winners of the photo competition were Norilsk residents Andrey Pereskokov, Alexander Strah, Andrey Podkorytov, Denis Kozhevnikov and other photographers, whose photos from Taimyr were included in the exhibition of the Russian Geographical Society.
