#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The guide is aimed at helping school students choose their future professions, according to Dmitry Subetto, doctor of geographical sciences and the Geography faculty dean.
“Right now, we have a collaborative effort underway involving geographers, cartographers, ecologists, biologists, and colleagues from the Institute of the Peoples of the North. This atlas will be an essential part of the educational process and research activities within the Arctic scientific and educational cluster at Herzen University”, he stated in an interview with TASS.
The publication is expected to provide information about the Arctic Zone of Russia, including its boundaries, climate, flora and fauna, settlements and populations, enterprises and resource bases, as well as the history and culture of the Arctic regions.
“What makes this atlas special is the inclusion of explanatory texts, illustrations, and a methodology for information organization. The main focus will be the maps, which are always engaging to explore. To create these maps, we need to systematize a large volume of relevant statistical data”, Subetto explained.
The atlas aims to give students comprehensive insights into the potential and development opportunities of the Arctic, which will help them consider careers related to the future of the region.
For several years, Herzen University has offered the Arctic Studies educational program. In collaboration with the Arctic Affairs Committee and the Russian Geographical Society, they host an annual student contest called Facing the North. The university is also conducting joint research with the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, M.K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University, and other educational and scientific organizations.
Currently, the university is establishing a scientific and educational cluster named Arctic, which will focus on research and educational programs tailored for the Arctic regions.
