#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. An international team of scientists from eight BRICS countries is planning to set off on a round-the-world scientific expedition around Antarctica on the ship Akademik Treshnikov. The researchers include representatives of Russia and Brazil.
“A Russian-Brazilian round-the-world expedition around Antarctica will begin in the fall. The Russian ship will set off for the shores of South America in October, and the expedition start is scheduled for November. This is a rather large project that unites scientists from eight BRICS countries”, said Alexander Makarov, director of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI), in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The institute head did not rule out that it would be possible to organize a similar project in the Arctic on the North Pole ice-resistant platform (IRP) together with Brazil.
Let us recall that the vessel North Pole has no analogues in the world, it was built at the Admiralty Shipyards and launched in 2022. For polar explorers, the platform has become a means of transport, a home, a research center and even a measuring device – sensors are built into the hull of the IRP that help study the ice conditions.
Earlier, we reported that the floating university expedition to study the seas left for the Arctic from Arhangelsk.
