#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. At the Moscow State University’s White Sea Biological Station, experts from the Arctic Research Center of the Rosneft oil company and the Innopraktika non-state development institute have begun the final stage of testing a microbial preparation that can utilize hydrocarbons in the seas of the Arctic.
According to the press service of Rosneft, marine aquariums have already been installed in the laboratory to test the biological product. “The system simulates the conditions of an open water area and ensures complete safety for the environment”, the report says.
Scientists are going to check all the characteristics of a microbial preparation, develop a regulation for its use and prepare a conclusion on its effectiveness.
In addition, studies on the microbes hygienic regulation are being completed. Experts have already proven that it is safe for humans, warm-blooded animals and marine ecosystems communities.
Previously, scientists had found out that bacteria and ultraviolet light can help clean the ocean of plastic, and microbes from permafrost can increase crop yields. Experts do not rule out that due to warming in the Arctic, bacteria dangerous to humans and animals may “wake up”. Microorganisms capable of “eating” oil have also been discovered in the Arctic.
