#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The event, organized by the Smart Urban Nature scientific center of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, brought together leading Russian specialists and experts in the field of environmental Arctic research.
The northernmost university of Russia was represented by the Noosphere environmental education center’s director Natalia Karmanovskaya, the Polar State University reported.
“The assessment of the environmental condition and the development of urban and man-made territories of the Russian Arctic remains the priority area for strategic programs and investment projects. Interdisciplinary and interregional scientific consolidation is also of paramount importance: specialists with knowledge and experience, organizations with infrastructure are needed to implement large projects in the field of monitoring, modeling and designing sustainable ecosystems in the Russian Arctic”, the PSU expert noted.
Natalya Karmanovskaya presented the results of work on several projects: implementation of the concept for the development of green infrastructure in the Norilsk agglomeration; creation of an interactive map for environmental monitoring of the atmosphere and water bodies; formation of a waste management system in accordance with the principles of a closed-loop economy.
The participants of the round table also got acquainted with the NordHouseMap project and the regional system for background monitoring of permafrost of the research center for construction technologies and monitoring of buildings and structures in the Arctic of the Polar State University.
