May 27, 2024

Construction of the vessel began at the Zvezda complex in the Far East.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. By 2030, a unique icebreaker Россия (Rossiya) will be built in Russia. First deputy prime minister Denis Manturov announced this at a meeting with prime minister Mikhail Mishustin.

“We plan to deliver the icebreaker Якутия (Yakutia) at the end of this year. Three more will join the nuclear fleet between 2026 and 2030. And of course, the most powerful icebreaker that is being built today at Zvezda, the only one of its kind in the world – 120 megawatts – is Россия (Rossiya), which will also be built approximately by 2030”, he said.

The power of the Project 10510 Leader icebreaker will be 120 megawatts (on shafts), speed – 22 knots in clear water, length – 209 meters, width – 47,7 meters, icebreaking capacity – 4 meters, displacement at wake draft – almost 70 thousand tons, TASS reports.

Currently, three nuclear-powered icebreakers are operating in the Arctic ocean – Арктика, Сибирь and Урал (Arktika, Sibir and Ural).
