#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The polar night has come to an end in the northern city. According to the approved schedule of day and night changes for Norilsk, 45 days of captivity of darkness are behind us, and today, January 13, the polar night has receded. Despite this, Norilsk residents will be able to see the first rays of the sun only by January 18.
“If we focus on the physics laws, then the higher we are, the more we can see. The first rays can be seen from the 18th, and not in the lowlands, but on the hills, for example, in the Harayelah mountains. In addition, in order to fully enjoy this phenomenon, excellent weather conditions are necessary, because fine frost and ground snow drifting can interfere”, said Mikhail Bondar, deputy director for science at the Taimyr Nature Reserves united directorate.

Let us recall that the change of day and night will last until March 27, after which twilight nights will begin at our latitude (30 days). White nights will begin on April 26. And on May 19, Norilsk residents will see the polar day, which, in turn, will last 68 days. Then everything will repeat in reverse order: white nights will begin on July 25, twilight nights – on August 15, the change of day and night – on September 15, and finally, the polar night will come again on November 30.
