Polar explorers write Arctic dictation first

February 27, 2025

The event will take place on February 28 at 75 locations across the country.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The crew of the patrol icebreaker Ivan Papanin was the first to participate in the Arctic Dictation 2025. This was announced by Alexander Kirilov, the Russian Arctic national park’s director.

The park is the organizer of this initiative, and it was the crew’s first time taking part. On February 28, while the dictation is happening in various regions of Russia, the icebreaker will be on a mission.

A total of 75 locations will host the event, with the northernmost point being Franz Josef Land and the southernmost in Stavropol. The dictation consists of 30 questions covering topics such as flora and fauna, the history of Arctic exploration, geology, toponymy, and astronomy.

This year, for the first time, an open competition has been held to select the best questions for the event with five of them included in the dictation. Over the past two years, more than seven thousand people have participated in the Arctic Dictation project across 120 locations.
