#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. On May 19, a polar day began in Norilsk. It will last until July 25th. 68 days the Sun will not go beyond the horizon – it will walk in a circle along its line.
At night, the Norilsk sky turns into a soft pink light, the rays of the luminary are enough to illuminate the streets, so the lights will not be turned on.
For the northerners, the beginning of the polar day marks the spring arrival; as a rule, the townspeople have a positive attitude to the Sun rays shining day and night – they are charged with solar energy before the polar night. But the polar day can also cause discomfort.
According to doctors, it interferes with the production of the hormone melatonin, which provides sound sleep, protects against depression and colds. Most of this hormone is produced in complete darkness, therefore, in order not to lose biorhythms and prevent health problems, doctors advise using blackout curtains on a polar day.
July 25 – after the polar day – the season of white nights will begin in Norilsk, it will last until August 15.
Then for about a month there will be a period of twilight nights – at this time, daylight hours decrease.
On September 15, a change of day and night will be established – 73 days, and from November 30 to January 13, polar night will fall on the city.
