#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Specialists from the Pasvik National Park have filed a claim for compensation of 47 million Norwegian krones – the amount, according to experts, the “illegal” reindeer from Norway ate reindeer moss in the Murmansk region.
Forty individuals made their way to the Russian part of the national park in December 2022 and lived there for more than two months, arctic.ru reports. In January, the “illegals” were returned to their homeland.
“Now we are planning a meeting with the National Park of Russia directorate. Therefore, it is too early to answer questions about compensation”, said Tone Franzen Seppola, the Alta’s Agriculture Department’s head.
Recall that in 1991, Russia, Norway and Finland decided to cooperate in the field of nature protection in the Pasvik-Inari region, the countries also agreed to drive back deer-“violators” and compensate for the damage from the budget of the country to which they belong.
Earlier, rare aboriginal reindeer were spotted in the Russian Arctic National Park. In Taimyr, reindeer have changed their migration routes – the animals leave the peninsula for the Evenkia forests.
