#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Northern hemisphere residents will have a rare opportunity to see an astronomical phenomenon – the flight of comet C/2024 S1 (ATLAS), which was discovered at the end of September. You can admire it for several hours on October 28 (in the evening). The Novosibirsk State University (NSU) press service reports.
“You can try to see the tail during the day on October 28, looking in the direction of the Sun. It is necessary to use black or gray filters, as during a total solar eclipse, otherwise you can get a retinal burn. The tail will start from the solar disk and cross a significant part of the sky”, says Alfiya Nesterenko, the NSU’s physics department’s educational astrophysical automated complex head.
It is specified that the comet’s speed is abnormally high, which will allow you to observe its tail twisted around the Sun. The comet’s brightness, according to Nesterenko, may be dozens of times brighter than the full moon. The rare astronomical event will occur from about 7:00 to 15:00, culminating at 11:00 (UTC), TASS reports.
