#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. By 2030, 17 new icebreakers will appear in the eastern part of the Northern Sea Route. They will be provided by the state corporation Rosatom, the NSR directorate’s project head Sergey Chemko told, as reported on the website vesti-yamal.ru.
They will include four non-nuclear vessels with a capacity of 40 megawatts, as well as an icebreaker of Rosmorrechflot, transferred for container transportation.
According to Sergey Chemko, the new non-nuclear vessels will perform pilotage near large terminals near the Yenisey river and in the Kara sea. This will free up more powerful icebreakers for use in the eastern part of the Arctic and will allow year-round navigation. As part of these tasks, the icebreaker Rossiya of project 10510 Lider is being built in the Far East.
