#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Over the past three years, more than 350 conflict situations with polar bears have occurred in the Russian Arctic, so experts from the Nature and People Foundation held a seminar for northern companies’s employees on the rules of safe proximity to these Red Book predators.
At the event, experts spoke about the psychology of polar bears, the organization of safety in populated areas of the Arctic, and the rules of removal. As TASS reports, the event was organized by the Nature and People Foundation and the Moscow Zoo with the support of Rosprirodnadzor federal environmental agency.
“I believe that such events need to be held more often, and perhaps not only in Moscow, but also to involve the regions. At the same time, not only regional authorities should participate, but also organizations working in the Arctic. We are always ready to support such initiatives”, said Tatyana Kuznetsova, Rosprirodnadzor’s deputy head.
Earlier, the department’s head, Svetlana Radionova, announced plans to implement the Bear Patrol project. Its task is to prevent conflict situations between polar bears and humans.
Let us remind you that almost a third of encounters between polar bears and humans end in the death of the Red Book bears. From Taimyr to Yamal, Rosprirodnadzor counted 42 polar bears. We also reported that our media company’s site Severny Gorod is among the eight best regional media in the country.
