#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. As part of the Pure Country exhibition at the Skolkovo Technopark, a discussion took place on approaches to monitoring and assessing changes in permafrost.
The purpose of organizing the state background monitoring system is to collect, accumulate and analyze data on the state of permafrost soils in natural landscapes to assess the level of degradation. By the end of 2025, they plan to create a network of 140 observation posts, similar to those already operating in Tiksi, on the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago and on Svalbard.
Nornickel presented its own corporate system for monitoring buildings and structures in Taimyr at Skolkovo. It consists of approximately 1 200 sensors, the data from which is received online on a specialized platform that processes, analyzes and collects this data into reports.
Nornickel’s monitoring system also includes a specially created satellite map, a dispatch center and other components.
In the future, the system is planned to cover about 1 500 facilities on the territory of the Norilsk and Energy divisions of the company. Moreover, it is planned to develop a regional climate model and create a background monitoring system for permafrost and provide this data to the scientific community.
